Understanding how people truly move
For decades, mobility studies have relied on household surveys, manual traffic counts, and point-in-time measurements. Valuable methodologies, but limited: expensive, slow, and with necessarily partial territorial and temporal coverage. **Mobility Big Data** has changed the game.
Mobile phone and GPS tracking data now allow us to analyze population travel patterns at a scale, temporal resolution, and territorial coverage that no traditional methodology could offer. Millions of real trips, broken down by hour, day, mode of transport, and geographic area, available continuously and at a much lower cost than conventional studies.
However, data alone does not answer questions. Their usefulness depends on the ability to extract, filter, process, and visualize them appropriately for each analysis objective. This is where VAIC Mobility adds value.
How we work with Mobility Big Data
At **VAIC Mobility, a sustainable mobility consultancy**, we develop analysis tools and mobility studies based on **Big Data** from mobile device and GPS tracking, combining custom programming of queries and filters with the creation of interactive visualization tools that allow intuitive exploration of results.
We work with the main mobility data sources available in the Spanish and European market, we know their methodological limitations, and we know how to calibrate and contrast them with field data to guarantee the reliability of the results.
The objective is always the same: to transform large volumes of open mobility data into actionable knowledge for transport planning, service design, and mobility policy decision-making.
Do you want to analyze the mobility patterns of your territory based on real data?
We help you extract the knowledge you need to plan better, with the analysis and visualization tools suited to your objectives.
What can we analyze
Mobility patterns and origin-destination matrices
We generate origin-destination matrices of trips from mobile phone data, disaggregated by time slot, day of the week, type of trip, and mode of transport. These matrices are the basis of transport models and transport demand studies, and allow for the replacement or supplementation of conventional mobility surveys with much lower acquisition costs and time.
Analysis of flows in corridors and networks
We analyze real traffic flows in road corridors and public transport networks, identifying usage patterns, peak hours, predominant origins and destinations, and seasonal variations. This information is especially valuable for the design and optimization of transport plans and for the justification of infrastructure or regulatory measures.
For what projects?
Mobility Big Data analysis is especially valuable in:
- Preparation and updating of sustainable urban mobility plans and master mobility plans
- Calibration of transport models and microsimulations
- Traffic studies and flow characterization on road corridors
- Analysis of tourist and seasonal mobility in destinations with high demand variability
